There is a New Holland 276 square bailer going up for auction this coming weekend. What can you tell me about the unit in general?

Jon,

I have an NH 276 square baler. I bought it four years ago for $600 from a farmer who was retiring. I don't know if that's a good price or a bad price, but it's what I paid.

I bale about 20 acres of hay two or three times a year. I pull the baler with a 3 cylinder gas Ford 2000 tractor (about 35 horsepower). My baler has never caused me a bit of trouble. I grease it ever time I use it and keep it in a shed. It works great on my clover/fescue mixture. I set mine to make small bales (about 35 to 40 lbs.) because they're so much easier to handle. I really like the baler.

Jon, The 276 was an excellent baler in it's day, but starting to get old. They were made from 1972-1976. Just look over the baler's general condition. If it looks like it was taken care of, then it should be a good workhorse for you. Steve
