I stumbled across a "never been used" 5ft. King Kutter rotary mower.. It is actually in an RV lot.
They want $485.00 for it and was wondering if this is worth going after. It may have indeed never been used, even though there's some surface rust around the rear wheel. It turns real easy by hand from the PTO coupling and everything seems smooth. Whadaya think? I don't know anything about this brand, so any input would be greatly appreciated.
Also, the 2 blades are not on opposite ends of the deck; they're actually running parallel to each other on the same side, Is this normal?
Thanks,
Chuck

Where can you buy a mower at that price?

Knowing its relative new cost, you may want to toss Mr. RV an offer and see how offended you can make him-You just never know!! Good Luck

Tried that. I said $350.00 figuring he would either hang up on me or counter offer. He came back with $450.00. I was hoping he would say $400.
The only place I could locate a new one in this neck of the woods (Northern California) was at Fisco Farm Supply. It was on sale for $629.00.
Can't find anything else close to it in price. I'll probably get Mr. RV's.
And oh yes. I'll definately get an ORC.
Keep on Tractoring.
Chuck

Thanks for the input, fellas. I think it's time to make a few phone calls and see what else I can come up with.
I really appreciate the help.

Hi Chuck,
You can buy a brand new one for $500.00 plus tax which includes a warranty at most tractor supply places. The decks and sides are somewhat thin on these and tend to become beat up after a while. This being mostly cosmetic doesn't generly effect the operation. After pricing KK brand and other brands (Ford, Bush Hog), I decided I can buy a new KK every 5 years for the same money as buying one of the other brands every 15 to 20 years. I have been using a 5' KK for about 2 months (about 120 acres so far) and am satisfied with it. I have sheared only 1 pin so far - knock on wood - well not really knock on wood. that's how I sheared the pin.
Just my opinion,
Happy and safe tractoring,
Best Regards Mike M (Tx)
P.S. Regardless of what you buy, if you don't have Live PTO use a ORC. (I think Dell's brain washing me - that's ok too, you can't be too safe.

My father bought a King Cutter about 7 years ago and has beat the hell out of it every year. It has hit stumps, rocks, fence posts, and even a log chain that he lost 3 months before. The only thing that he had to replace is a blade that broke when he hit the log chain. He has replaced alot of shear bolts, so you know that they serve their purpose. The only other repair that he had to make was to tighten the bolts that hold the motor on to the body. This must have happened from all of the vibration from hitting so much junk. The blades are not parallel. They pivot freely on the bolts that attach them. They straighten out with centrifugal force exerted from your PTO. The next time you look at it move the blades with your hand. You will see what I am talking about.

It seems like the brand new ones are about this price from the bit I have looked at them. The father in law just bought one and runs it with his Ford 2000. He doesn't have live power, but the thing works really well. Take a look again at the blades-I think they are opposite, but hinged, which might have given the appearance you mentioned?
