I am going to have a look-see at a NH 404 crimper later this week. It is supposed to be in very good condition and is being sold because the owner bought a haybine.

My question is - what the going price for one of these and what years were they made. Also, anything in particular I should look at? Lastly, I assume that the wheels have bearings such that I can tow this thing behind my truck for about 40 or so miles.

Thanks in advance,
Bill

All Crimper's or conditioner's are made for the 7' cutterbar, 5', 6', 9' will not work with the conditioner as they will plug all the time

Bill,
I just replied to your post below and realized this one was from you as well. If you want to use the crimper then I think you will need to match the crimper width to the mower cutterbar length. I have never used a crimper but my understanding is that they work better matched. Matter of fact several mowers came with a PTO pass through that would let you pull the crimper behind the mower saving a trip and mowing and crimping at the same time

I just sold mine this past summer for $150. It was in excellent shape mechanically, but the paint was quite faded. Worked like a charm though. It can be towed behind your pickup at a resonable speed, say 30-35 mph. I've pulled the one I had behind my 4-wheeler for distances of 10 miles with no trouble at that speed.

You're yard is beginning to look a lot like mine! Price?? Whatever it's worth to you. I bought mine 20 or more years ago for $800. Today I'd say in the $300 - $500 range ( you'll likely get a difference opinion on this!) I liked mine but since my neighbor lends me his Haybine when I need one and it's been so dry here lately it sitting up on blocks and the wheels are under one of my swathers. My Owner's Manual was printed in 19 and 66. It works ok for me but you'll read or hear elsewhere they're useless and a pain in the A**. It could be easily carried in a 1/2 ton. HTH.
