I'm looking for an inexpensive round baler. There are 2 MF 1560's under $2500 in my area. I'd like to know the pros and cons about this baler. If you would share your experience, it would be very helpful for me to hear. Thanks!

Hi David,
this is the round baler that I started baling with. The Massey 1560 and the 605F Vermeer are the same baler. Just painted different. I used many vermeer parts on mine. I had a bearing on mine that kept going out on one of the front lower rollers. Can't remember which one. Its been since 96 since I had that baler. Traded it in on a 530 Deere. My 1560 had hydraulic twine operation that was kinda tough to keep the twine cutting sometimes. Stay out of wet hay with it!!! Should be that way on any baler though.
I baled with it for 3 seasons and had pretty good luck with it. The price of the belt lacer will make you do your shorts!!! Right at 100 bucks and thats just what holds the lace hooks. I have a owners manual for it that I was getting ready to put on ebay. If your interested let me know and I'll study on a price.
Well, thats about all I can think of right now. HOller at me if you have any questions. I'll try to search my memory bank and find an answer for ya.

I was wrong in the previous post. The MF650 is similar to the Vermeer 605C. The MF1560 is similar to the Vermeer 605F. This is an open throut baler still 5' wide and 6' tall. Still check the condition of the belts and they should be tight on this baler. See how much play is in the pickup reel bars. Does it have steel or rubber mounted teeth rubber are better. Electric, Hyd. or manual twine tie. The main places to look are the belts and the pickup reel and then bearings, chain etc. A Vermeer in good shape goes for about $4500 around here with either elec. or hyd. twine tie.

Thanks for the imput. I guess the bid question is should i seriously consider this baler or not. I don't expect to bale more than 75-100 rolls annually, so i can't justify big bucks for a newer model. Thanks again for your help, David.

Same as Vermeer 605C. This is a closed throat baler that makes a 5' wide by 6' tall. Probably won't get quite 6'. Check the condition of the rubber roller it is very important also look at the belts. They should be loose and all about the same length. Also some had double springs on each side, this will help make a tighter bale. You can still get parts through Vermeer. About thrity years old. Around $1000 would be fair for one in good condition.

You're looking at a yellowy green (not quite sure what to call it, I'm partially color blind!) Vermeer in red disguise! You can probably expect a post from "Hay Dr", our resident Vermeer guru. Late 70's, early 80's I think. Parts should be available from MF or VM. Price sounds reasonable to me but I've never run one. Others will let you know what they think. HTH.
