Planted 4 fields of corn this year, but due to rainy weather and cold temps I had to replant one in early June. Then the cool wet summer held it back and along came an early frost. For the first time, I had corn that isn't too mature when it froze. It was just starting to dent. Will it dry down and be OK to crib?
I don't do sileage and don't have any way to handle shelled corn. Do you think it will work out? Any other options?

Where are you - how cold dows it get?

I had that once - turned out to be the last year 110 day corn was grown on this place..... Ended up combining it in February. In Minnesota. I cribbed some, but only after it was very cold, was working in snow in Nov. Fed it to the cattle by the end of Jan.

It will be trouble, but if you can wait as long as possible, and when it is COLD, then use it up first..... Make sure it is in a good drying part of the crib, not in a dead spot that doesn't dry well.

It will be very low test weight, and not want to dry of course.

Thanks. I live in northern Pennsylvania. It dropped to 28* last week. Planted 100 day corn and figured it would be no problem. Like I said, it was dented some. I have one 4 foot wide wooden crib. Will see what happens.

Have you thought about round bale silage. Mow, rake, roll, and wrap. Most of our county Farm BUreau's and/or NRCS districts rent wrappers for $1 per bale plus plastic. I just opened a tube of alfalfa/johnsongrass (was supposed to be orchard grass) and it is the most beautiful and best smelling silage I have ever made, even back wen I rented farms with silo's.
