I picked up a ground driven side delivery rake at auction. This thing need some work before we try to use it next year. How high should the fingers be off the ground when in the raking position? I will have it hitched up to the tractor on level concrete for measurements; also, this is a pull type ford rake, any idea on what model this is ? thanx

I had a 503 as well, and loved it.

The operator's manual was a little vague about height and basically said to experiment with the height while actually raking in the field. You want to keep it high enough so that it doesn't rake a lot of trash and debris in the windrow, yet low enough so that it rakes most of the cut hay. In my fields (all grass hay) that was maybe 2-3 inches or so, but that is just a guesstimate.

I have a ford model 503 side delivery rake. It is a 5 bar model with rubber mounted teeth. It is belt driven off the rear axle. I adjust the height of my teeth for different types of hay. I guess to start, I'd say try an inch or so off the ground, and adjust accordingly from there. The teeth should never have to rub on the ground to rake clean. I've been very satisfied with mine.
