IH 241 big bale baler.

I did a search here and found a little info on it, some good and some not so good.

Are you going to pull this thing with your H?

Alot of people are probably going to tell you that baler is a POS, but I will have to disagree. I bought mine earlier this year for $450 because I didn't have my Vermeer 605C put together yet and it needs a shaft built up. I love my 241, my brother runs a 2400(same thing, just newer) and my Dad custom baled 1000's of acres with a 241, get yourself a manual, I'm pretty sure you can still get them at CIH, and follow everything in there pretty much and you will get along just fine. I use plastic twine in mine and my bales seem to stand up better. Mine makes tight bales, I think this is because the belts are actually shorter than they are supposed to be, but make sure you keep the belt length around 424 inches, make sure the springs on the side measure 34+ inches from tip to tip and if you don't already have the dual spring setup, get it. The chain on the side we always replace once every two years or so--it's exactly 10ft so is easy and quick to do. Keep that oiled every 10 bales or sooner, squirt some oil on every bearing(sealed or not) everytime before you go baling. Lots of other things I can't think of right now, but get a manual--it's a must if you want to make good bales with this baler. Good luck.

Yes, the springs are the same(as far as I know), but you will want to get the dual spring setup or you won't like the way it bales. Best bet would be at a salvage yard for the setup. Some 241's had the metal press(compression) roller, which was fine until the rubber wore off of it, if yours is what looks like tire carcass material, then you are fine, works alot better. There should be a way to tighten the chain, mine has a bolt and sprocket to loosen and then tighten it by turning a nut, my brother's has a spring loaded tensioner(much nicer).
