On my 273 baler the tow bar can be placed in an offset position for baling or straight for transporting.Do any of you have a favorite way of doing this? Do you block certain wheels on the baler. My tractor has no power steering and at times this operation becomes very difficult.I know that many other balers also have this function so any help would be appreciated. thanks dave m

Nb cowman is right some grease does wonders, my 273 was used and the first couple of times I pushed the baler over a bale of hay SEVERAL times to swing it.

a little gease under where the tounge slides helps a bunch. back up or just hit the brakes for road position. pop the clutch for field position. a little grade or a ditch helps too. I have even blocked the wheel with a bale of hay.

Block the backside of the wheel on the pickup end of the baler. Back up, turning the tractor steering wheel to the right. Actually, you shouldn't need to carry a block, just backing up should do the job. Pretty basic move to fold the hitch.

On my 282 and on some other NH balers there is a cable from the bottom of the lever on the hitch that goes through pulleys to the rh wheel to block it so that when you pull the lever to release the pin holding the baler in position it is supposed to block the wheel to make it easier to move. Mine doesn't work and I have found a block of wood or large rock will do the same thing. To go to baling position I put the rock or block in front of the right tire and pull foreard, To go the other way I put the block behind the tire and back up. I used to operate a IH56 baler on an IH M with swinging drawbar. The baler hitch stayed stationary on baler and we swung the drawbar on the tractor.
