New Vermeer 5400 Rebels sell for $11,500 here in East TN. We have good used NH630's, Hesston 530's & 540's, and the JD small baler trade-in's all the time. By the way the Vermeer Rebel 5400 makes a 5x4 bale and in the # 1 selling baler in the USA. The 504I baler is the previous model. Call the Carter boys we'll give you agood deal.

Last year, my brother-in-law decided to retire. He had a good business built up, selling round baled hay. I decided to step in, and fill the "void". He turned over his list of customers to me. SO....I had to find a good round baler. The bro-in-laws old IH was shot. He offered to sell it to me. I graciously declined. If I'm going to have to learn to work on one, I thought it would be better to learn how to work on a more modern one. About the time I decided to buy a new one, my wife stepped in, and bought me one as a birthday present. I thought she was saving for a new car. Boy was I ever surprised! With a little snooping, she figured out that I was wanting a new Vermeer 5400 Rebel. That's what I got. I have baled about 350 bales with it so far. eEnough to tell that I like it. It rolls very nice looking, tight bales, with little load on the tractor. I use a 60 HP tractor. When selling hay, the appearance is as important as the quality. This baler makes my "marketing" much easier. I have found that the Vermeer dealers are very co-operative, and willing to help out when I need a question answered. All in all, a pleasant experience. Add all of this to the fact that Vermeer balers sell for less than the competition, and you have a "no-brainer" if you want a new baler. If I was buying used, all of these factors would influence my pick, in much the same way. I would recommend Vermeer to anyone planning on buying a new baler. More specifically, the Rebel 5400. You won't go wrong. JMHO, John

We run 2 NH 650's. I love them. My dad got his new in 1991. I got mine 10 yrs old last year. Before you rule one out b/c it is a 4x6, you can put out any size you want. Right not I jyst finished 60 rolls on 4x4. Makes them as nice as any other size. The 650's have a better tensioning system than the 640's. As the other post said, they do not have a gague to tell how much hay to fit in each side but with even windrows just feed 10secs each side. Does fine. Only bale I had messed up was on a twine balle change and I had a duh moment (and didn't tie the twine together.

We bought a NH 638 this spring are now in the market to trade it in. I hate that baler with a passion. What was NH thinking when they built a brand new baler without any sort of bale leveling gauge? It couldn't have been that expensive to add that in! To make a decent bale requires talent plus more than a little luck. I have used the JD 335 and 446 and liked the 335 the most. Right now though, I am most interested in Claas. They seem to make a tougher baler that can handle the baleage that we are making.

But if you really want a NH 638, ours is for sale. :)
