IH 45 baler can be used with the pick-up in ground drive. I fiquire that if he gives you paint money, you could repaint and display it. Functional is minus $$$$ thousands, and the parts can not inter-changable with most newer IH balers.
Heed these other guys experiences.

20 Years ago, we used to have a McCormick 45 baler. I was about 10 years old, and used to have to ride atop the twine compartment and tie all the twine knots that the knotter missed, before the bale came out the shute. Obviously, we weren't into high production, but when I read "McCormick 45", that was the first memory to come to mind.

Regarding the 45t baler, if you have a nice restored SM, it would look very nice hitched up to a repainted and decaled 45t. As for the 45t being a good baler---they were among the worst, least reliable balers ever on the market, and irregardless of condition, having one for a machinery display strikes me as the best use for one, as I wouldn't want to take one to the field and actually try to bale with one! Sorry!

My IH book says that 100,000 45's were produced aat IH's Memphis,TN works from 54-57. IH history 1831-1985 by Baumheckel & Borghoff page 287. 100K produced? Couldn't have been that bad. I knew a guy that had one for years and never had any problems tying with it.

I rode the twine box on a 45 baler for several years in early 60's. learned to tie a square knot real fast
