Have an unknown sickle mower. Has some wooden parts. Only mark I can find is on axel where seat is attached. NEW 4 is all it says. Any ideas?

I have an original McCormick-Deering manual in my collection. It shows the New 4 mower was made from 1896 to 1915.

If you would like more info drop me a line. I'll see if I can help.

I have both a No. 4 and a New 4, and have the parts books but no operators manual, would that be operators or parts?

I sent in casting parts numbers to the Wisconsin site. With those they could date it as close as 1913-1915 although they did give the years of manufacture 1886-1915 for the NEW 4.

Thanks, Paul, for your tip. Wisconsin Historical Society has already identified my mower as a New 4 manufactured 1913-1915. Appears it's a McCormick. I already have a manual on order. Thanks again.

The McCormick part of International Harvester made a horse-drawn mower called the "New 4" around the turn of the century (1910 or so). Look for part casting numbers then email the Wisconsin Historical Society McCormick-IH Collection at [email protected], and they will photocopy the original manuals (operator and parts) for a small fee. They can also attempt to identify it for you. They figured out my one horse mower (Osborne #1, 1905 - 1913) for me.

Wooden, axle, & seat???? Is this a horse-drawn unit, powered by big steel wheels?

Describing the seat, wheel tread, bar length, etc. will help if no one knows so far.
