Got lucky enough to be able to buy a brandnew 5400 baler this year.I realy love this baler and want to have it around for along time.While baling about the 500th bale I got distracted and over filled the baler causeing the clutch to slip.Will the clutch prevent damage from overfilling or have I shortend the life of my baler.I am sure this happens once in awhile.My 504G had protection for overfill and I miss that feature. I would also like to know about makeing silage bales with this baler.I make around 800 to 900 dry bales a year and realy dont have the need for silage bales but it would be nice to make 30 to 40 bales a year just to get an early jump on hay season.I have a freind who ownes a wrapper.Will this baler standup to a few silage bales a year.I know it will do it I got cought in the rain last week and keep balihg to get the last 5 bales of the year.Just dont want to harm my new toy!The old IH1066 dose'nt cut much slack.Did anyone else get rained on this year?

The clutch did exactly what it was meant to do. I would not recomend baling silage with this baler, but it probably can be done. I would not make a full bale becuase of the extra weight in the hay. Also check for hay build up on lower drive and lower tailgate rollers.

You have not damaged your baler. The clutch is one of the protections engineered into your baler. If you repeatedly slipped your clutch it will require a simple rebuild of the clutch but bale hay an forget what happened. The Rebel 5400 is all the 504G is and much more. Increase the hydraulic pressure because the pressure is only set a 50% to break the baler in and wear some of the paint off the inside. Enjoy the #1 selling baler in the USA.
