PTO roller pump/Sprayer

This is my first time using a PTO roller pump for a sprayer. The pump is used and will not turn by hand. Is it stuck or will the PTO turn it? Also, what keeps the pto from spinning to whole pump?

To prevent this in future always flush with clean water after use or soon thereafter. Then fill pump with used antifreeze, or new if you want. Been doing this for years pump turns freely next use.

This happens to mine regularly every spring. If it's steel and roundup has been run through it, it's even worse. Fill the inlet hole with oil, and loosen the bolts that hold the housing together. Put it in a vise and turn the impeller with a wrench. It'll break free, thenretighten the housing bolts. Fill the inlet with oil after you use it to help keep the rust down.
To stop it from spinning, you need to use a check chain from the pump to the tractor.

I would take the cover off and clean it. If it is stuck bad, I wouldn't want to turn the PTO on and find out.

It's common for one that hasn't been used for a while to rust up a little bit & not turn so easily at first. However, there is a danger it is _badly_ rusted up & you will break something. Proceed with caution. I would work on it with a pipewrench for a while....

The ones I have used can be turned by hand. Mine has a small angle iron on it that chains to the drawbar to keep it from spinning.

I have a sprayer with a roller pump. It generally sticks when ot used for a while but comes loose. You might try turing it with a wrench before puttiong the pto on it. Pump should ba anchored somehow. Mine hooks to sprayer but if that isn't the case you should hook a chain from it to drawbar or something solid.
