JD 24 Square Baler

I was wondering if anyone could tell me about this baler. I have a chance to buy one and am curious if they are generally a good, reliable baler and what it might be worth. Also, I need to know if my Ford 400 diesel will run it. It looks to be in good shape. The owner went to a round baler.

Mark I have a 24T I paid $300.00 for it four years ago, put $300.00 in parts into it had it timed and have put about 4500 bales a year through it. Good little bales, I just bought a 336 with a kicker on it for $1800.00 from a farmer friend. Needed something bigger because I bale around 100 acres now. If it bales good, have him fun some hay through it to show you then it is worth around $800.00 if he won't run hay through it (beware). Check out some end of the year auctions too. I bought another 24T last year for 400. put 100 in parts in it and it ran great. I have my 24T for sale for 850.00 but I am in MN.

don't know how mutch hay you bale? I had one worked good,used for years until i traded it for a baler with a thrower. I still have the operators manual for it. If you buy it email your adress and i will mail it to you stumpy

Pay what it's worth to you. Older balers are selling for more now than they were years ago. Now horse owners, acreage people, etc. buy them up. Price out a new one and you'll see why. Most guys were happy to get rid of them, especially if they didn't have an auto stooker or Stackliner - they're a lot of work. Baling's the easy part. It's stacking and putting them under cover that's the real work. the JD's are one of the best (no offense to NH, IH, etc.) - you're not likely to wear it out and used parts shouldn't be hard to find. Once you price new parts you'll know why I say used. If you by it, make sure you get a manual and go all thru the set up or have someone who knows balers do it. Being out of time and/or adjustment could cause you a lot of grief. Good luck. Hope this helps.

My previous baler was a John Deere 24T. I baled approx. 1500 bales a year for 15 years with it. No trouble at all. Only reason I sold was a neighbor wanted to buy it, and I went to a baler with a kicker. Getting to hard to find help to ride the racks. As far as price, in good condition it should be worth $500-700. In excellent, (always shedded, very nice paint and tires, etc.) I would say $800-950. This is off season to buy hay equipment. You may get a little better buy. I'm not familiar with ford tractors as far as a 400 diesel. If it is a 4000, no problem. I used a 35hp tractor on the 24T and pulled a wagon behind.

I guess the price has to be what it is worth to you. If it was me, and I really liked the baler, I'd offer $950. I wouldn't ever pay more than that for a T series baler. I paid $2300 for my 336 with #40 thrower, and it is top of the line condition. Has never sat outside a night since new. Hope you do find one that is good for you!

i would say that is to much $$$.
i bought a 14t this spring for $100
bought manual for $30
spent alot of time checking thing over since this was my first baler. reset up knotter.
baled 400 bales this year never missed a bale. but baler has alot of wear i didnt find until out into feild making hay. worked out ok this time.

let me add i pull it with a ford naa about 35 hp.
drawback is no live pto. (make small windrows)
