Ok I went and looked at another one. This one is a 469 9' cut. At a dealer. Asking price of $1200.
The story on this one per the dealer.
It has a new wobble box. ( it does, nice and grey brnd new)
The reason it has a new wobble box is a bracket that is attached to the cutting head broke loose on that side. The head smashed into the frame damaging the wobble box. He showed me the marks on the frame where it impacted.
The bracket has also been replaced. he showed me that also.
Every thing else looks to be in real good shape. Real nice rollers, chains look good ect.
I had them hook it up to a tractor and run it (not mowing) Seemed to run ok every thing turned fine as I could tell. It did make a sound that he told me was the roller tapping the frame because there was no hay in it.
What do you guys think of this machine?
How about the story I stated? Should this machine survive a impact like that?
Price? I dont think my self the price is unreasonable, but I dont really know and of course I would not think of buying it with out first cunsulting you guy.

Found my 469 along the side of the road this spring with a 68 baler. $400 for the two. Rusty but solid. The only trouble I've had with the haybine is that tall hay would wrap around the reel at the outside pivot. Adjusted the sheetmetal a bit and welded in a couple stiffeners and have'nt had any trouble since. Rollers are fair to good, chains fair. A new sickle bar for $100 was the best money spent.About 300 acres into it this year. Only minor troubles with both machines. The one thing that kicked my butt with the baler was that the woodruff key on the twine finger shaft was sheared, so they were always ging in and out of adjustment. Took a while to find that one, just started pushing on stuff and the cam moved! If the dealer won't move on the price, will he give you a warranty?

Kelly, this is a very good model. But in my area, $1200 for a 469 would be too much. But, I know in different areas of the country, prices do vary. Steve

Hey Kelly,
I have more hours in front of a 469 haybine than I would like to admit too. They are super machines and if the one you mentioned has a brand new wobble box you can safely figure thats at least half of the price of the machine. Now then for the price, if its in the condition you say its in 1500 to 1800 wouldn't be too high. The 469 is a really better machine than a 488 in my opinion. I have had both. One thing I have done on my 469 is I have taken a 488 sickle head and taken a hand grinder and ground off the top part to where its even with the bar thats welded too it because a 488 uses a longer sickle bushing and it is split with a bolt in it to hold the bushing in. This way I can change a bushing without pulling the sickle. It works pretty good for me anyhow. I hate to have to pull sickles. Give me a shout on my email if you would like to ask anything about what I have done on mine, using it and or working on it. I think I have worked on just about everything on it over the 13 years I have had it. Its not getting much use now as I'm running a 2280 Deere self proppelled windrower and a 14' hydroswing 1380 Deere.

well it sounds a bit steep, but i suppose if it is in real nice shape then its a decent price. i was lucky enough to get my 469 for free from a friend. its not in the best of shape and has a bit of rust but it works good. are ya sure that it is a 469 tho? the type with the woblebox that is open design on the outside of the frame? the only reason i ask is that ya say its "shiny and gray" and the only haybines i have ever seen with a gray wobblebox were the 489 style which are trouble for people like you and me. the wobblebox on the 469 is supposedly pretty bulletproof and dead simple to rebuild so its not such a worry as the 489 type. i can see how the wobblebox could get smashed by the tounge if a mount broke on the header so that sounds truthfull. i personaly would try and find a cheeper one but then again i dont do much hay and i dont like to pay much for equipment, thats why i use mostly old junk lol

Yes it is a 469 the decales are still pretty visable. I may wait till winter and try to catch an auction down in southern MN. Small stuff goes pretty high around here. I had to drag my NH68 balers from western MN to find a cheaper price on them.
I was supprised that the wife said I can buy one and she also oked a round baler if it does not cost to much. So I will be shopping for a wile.

yea i figured ya knew what it was, just the gray wobblebox sorta surprised me cause all the ones i saw were red, but NH probably just paints the replacements gray or whatever.

Kelly, Don't they go any cheaper than that at sales? The price seems a tad high for a 469, atleast to me. I could have bought a mechanically nice 469(Just needed paint and decals to look new) for $375 at an auction. It was used right before the sale so everything worked. Don't rush it..... .Haying is almost over for this year, then you can rest up, go to some sales and come home with that bargain Round balers and Haybine(Grins ;-D)

Hey, but if you like it and think it is a good buy go for it! Your the one and only person who is going to be using it! I have bought stuff at what I thought was cheap(And I am noted for being extremely close with my $$$$) and others said I paid too much..... ...My $10 NI loader for example, It is 1950's technology but man does it work good!
