I've had several problems with the knotters on my hay baler. It seems like I can't get it to bale 2 bales in a row. If anyone has any helpful tips or anything about what could be causing the problem, I'd really appreciate it. Also, if anyone knows where I could get a manual for it, it'd be great. I bought the baler second hand, and it didn't come with a manual.

Thanks.

Get a manual!!!! Anyone with a baler needs one.

International was bought out by Case, so any Case farm dealer should be able to get you one.

New Holland (formerly Ford tractors) has just bought out Case, so eventually any New Holland dealer should be able to access the parts network, but I wouldn't count on that just yet...

I have a Model 27 but as an earlier post mentioned I think the knotters are the same.

My manual has about 3 pages of Symptoms/Causes for knotting problems. Fist you need to look at a knot that didn't tie. Is there a knot in either the needle end of the twine or the twine over the top of the bale? These are timing or spacing adjustments, or too much twine tension. Did it pull apart after tying a good knot? This is usually a dull knife or insufficient twine tension.

You should get a manual. It will have lots of good advice specific to your machine.

Justin,

I had 37 and 47 balers for a while, they are older than yours, but pretty similar I think. I found the IH balers to be sensitive to pressure. If you tighten the screws to make the bales nice and tight, the knots won't hold. Mine had a thrower, and usually the bales would burst when they hit the wagon. Other people have told me the same thing. So try loosening the bales up a little and see if that works better. BTW, I tried sharpening and even replacing the twine knives and it didn't make any difference. Good luck. Feel free to email if you have more specific questions.
