Can anyone tell me something about this old baler? I learned from the dealer that parts are hard if not impossible to get for it. However I can get a manual from them. Bottom Line. Were they ever any good? I really need this information before !!:00PM central time today. Thanks, Bill

This spring I bought one from and individual that had this ole girl in a shed all her life and looks like new. When I got there he had a bunch of hay from bales he broke up to demonstrate for me. The man was real proud of his equipment and took great pride in himself and his farm so we baled the hay back up. I didn't have the heart to "jew" on him any and gave $1800 for it and have never second guessed my decision. He even made a "tool or gauge" to set it back the same after removing the last bale. You wont be disappointed!!

Gentlemen, I really appreciate all of your informative feedback. If you don't mind what is the most that one should pay in fair condition. I know each area is different. Thanks again, Bill

Good question and it does depend on area.
My area it would bring between $400 to $900 in fair condition. Central MN. They are green crazzy here and there is still a good market for them here.
Southern MN were the fields are big. They can be had for $50 to $300 in good condition.

What your dealer really meant to say was.
" Parts are real hard to come by because I am to lazzy to take the time to look them up for you. If you talk to one of our sales men I am sure he can find a nice new baler that I would have no trouble finding parts for."
There are many many 24t's out there many more than that of 14t's.
JD should have no problem getting any ware parts you need. If you need any brackets or such things. I bet there are 500 of them sitting in some ones fence row for parts. There is a reason JD sold so many. They were good balers.

I think your comment about the dealer being too lazy is dead on! Some of these dealers only want to service the new stuff and wish the older equipment would just go away and leave them alone. And it's not just JD dealers that do this! I think you need to find another dealer, and when you do find one that CAN support you, be sure and let the old one know how much business he's losing!! The 24t parts are all pretty much available! Knotter parts are the exact same ones used on a brand new 338!

I thank all of you for your input. I bought the JD 24t at auction today . I know it will need some work. The previous owner left a bale in the chamber and it appears to be years old. I found a top of a broken needle in the twine box. The knotter mechanism has frayed twine pieces all over it.When I get the chamber cleared and the thing cleaned up I will know what I have. I paid $270.00 for it. Regards, Bill

I've been running a 24T(wine) for about 8 years and a 14T for 25 before that. I've never had any trouble getting parts. I like mine and it gives very little trouble. I've never ran any other make.

I've baled about 2,000 bales a year with a 24T for the past 15+ years, and it was a great baler. I sold it this fall for two reasons. One, my neighbor wanted to buy it pretty bad, and two was I couldn't get help to ride the racks, so I needed a baler with a thrower. Bought a Deere 336 with #40 thrower, and it works like a dream.
