Spreader Apron Chain Question

This may be a dumb question, but how difficult would it be to modify a T-bar apron chain to fit another spreader? I have an old spreader that may be beyond hope, but the T-bar chain is still good. If I find another spreader to use, the slats on the chain most likely won't fit (too wide). Has anyone shortened and re-riveted slats to work on a different spreader?

Also, will a T-bar apron chain work on most older (#67H) spreaders?

If the other spreader is narrower than your present apron, just cut a piece out of the middle of the T-bar or angle iron slat and reweld together again.. Grind the weld smooth on the bottom where it contacts the floor.

Welding + manure = rust-through. We all do it, but welding on manure parts often doesn't last.

Just as easy to cut one side off & redrill holes, put rivots in. Dad did on our spreader, he got a brand new web for $5 at an auction, but it was too wide.
