Lifting walls with boom pole

I will be putting up some walls for an outbuilding. The building will be stud wall with T1-11 wood siding. I'd like to build and side the walls flat and them lift them. Short of having a bunch of friends over, I'm wondering if a boom pole would do the trick. The walls will be 9ft high. I'm not sure the booms go that high. Anyone ever tried this?

Thanks.

Dave, Rent or borrow Wall Jacks. They are made for doing just that. You need to adjust the "Stops" at the top so that they will catch the top of the wall when it gets to the correct height. I think you take the wall height and multiply it by 1.4 to get the correct length to set the stops. Please varify this with a local Carpenter if you know one. You also need to attach the bottom feet on the jack to something very solid or you will get someone hurt. If you get jacks and need further assistance please e-mail me and I'll help you the best I can.

Dave, Get the friends over to help, or someone from the area that has experience. You'll save alot of stress and frustration with enough manpower to put the walls up. The boom, unless you built a very heavy one,as comercial ones will not take the weight or go high enough. If you don't have the help a crane would be a better option. Also dependong on the length af the wall if your lifting from one spot it may not handle the weight of the entire wall and split away.

I've never tried it but a couple thoughts come to mind.

1. Are your hydraulics and the boom pole itself going to take the weight? A lot of boom poles are only rated for 500lbs lift at the end.

2. Can you keep your front wheels on the ground?

The boom probably won't go 9ft. high but it may not need to. If I was trying this I'd put the tractor outside the building and hook up with about 3 feet of strap to the header of the wall while its on the ground. Lift the boom to get the wall partly in the air and then slowwly drive away pulling it upright. I'd probably stop before its quite all the way up and finish it with muscle to prevent tipping it out.

Hope this helps
