Just bought a 2 furrow, 10", 3pt hitch plow and would like to know who made it. I am wondering if it was made by Massey Harris. On the mouldboard brace is < M-H > and P15219. The furrow wheel is a metal dish with 3 holes and stamped on it is PE171. The beam has on it 01765MI. The cross shaft is straight. Did Massey Harris even make 3 pt hitch plows before becoming Massey Fergusion. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thankyou.

Blair - I checked to-day and my plow has the same style tail wheel as yours. The cross shaft is also adjusted by two bolts with jamb-nuts. I also noticed the the tail-wheel is adjustable as well. This plow was definately manufactured as a 3ph model and has the MH prefix on parts. Glad you brought up this subject as it reminded me of our first tractor with 3ph. (Ferguson TEA) and the massey drag plow we had cut down to use on it. That was 49 years ago this year and if I remember correctly, the tractor cost $1500 and was the last tractor sold by our local co-op.

Funny that you should mention a MH plow. I bought one at an auction on Saterday for 250.00 Can. It is a MH 62 according to the tag which is located on the left riser for the drag link. The plow is a 3 bottom plow and the colter bearings are shot. This unit was deffinatly a 3 point hich as it looks like all factor parts. I also bought a 9 foot cultivator (3 point hitch) with wheels dropping down off the main cross bar, I believe that it has 9 shoes and originally was red, anyone know who made it.

Thanks for all the info Jim. I worked on the plow today and spent a good part of the day unseizing the tail wheel. Use liquid wrench,WD40 and a clean all. Finally got it turning as I couldn't see how to disassemble. Cleaned up coulters too and they definately also had massey harris logo on them. Noticed that the beams are like small "I" beams. I don't quite understand what you are saying about your plow, you think it was manufactured as 3ph hitch or cut down from a drag plow. From looking at mine and what you had said earlier I began to think mine had been manufactured from a drag plow. I just bought the plow for some fun, I have an 8N and a dearborn plow, dearborn disk and looking for a dearborn cultivator. Thanks again for interest.

Sorry for the confusion. I have a 3ph plow like yours but many years ago , when we purchased the Fergie we had our massey trail plow cut down and made into 3ph. .That plow was traded years ago when we went to larger plows. By the way, I also have an 8N and Dearborn plow I bought from the original owner. The plow had only been used on a total of 5 acres because the owner was used to drag plows and never got the knack of using the 3ph. For years, when working his farm, I drove past his 3 furrow Massey drag plow that he eventually sold for scrap. Wish now that I'd have bought it.

Massis-Harris did make 3ph plows before joining Ferguson. I have a two furrow 10" for my 1953 Mustang. I believe it's a model 34 but can't confirm that because it's at the other farm. Many Massey drag plows were cut down and converted to 3ph by neighbourhood welding shops in this area. Massey had such a great reputation for producing the number one plow for the clay in our area. By the way , Brantford Ontario has lost all of the Massey and Cockshutt factories that once dominated that city.

Thanks for the reply Jim. So the symbol probably would indicate Massey Harris? Where would Massey Harris put their label indicating model etc. I see nothing on this plow to indicate an engraved marking or label plate. Does your have the pan like furrow wheel. All I have ever seen is the Fergusion and Dearborn ones and they are completely different than this. Thanks

I don't know about 3 p.h.'s, but I have a M-H 3 bottom plow on steel with similiar "PE" numbers. I'm not familiar with M-H history but this plow in made in Canada, likely Brantford, Ontario where many of the ag. manufacturers were, and still are located. Yours may have been adapted from a standard drawbar hitch, I couldn't say. There have to be others out there that know about M-H. I've got two vintage combines of theirs, a No. 17 and a No. 21 back in the bush along with an old binder that may get restored some day. They go back to homesteading days here in the 30's.
