How much should I expect to pay for a 2 star tedder in Western Pa. I am talking about new from a dealer, with no particular individual in mind. Thanx,

Hi, I have had a 2 star and a 4 star tedder. I would not buy one with the arms not double bolted to the hub. The 2 star(Stille) I had had the arms with one bolt and and a stud, nothing but trouble. With the small amount of use you have, they are all good. In your area the Marion auction sell new ones in the 1200 range. If you ever use a 4 star you will never want to use a 2 star again. Bill

I've had an IFT and NI 2 basket tedders. Both good machines. Got a 4 basket NI (made by Tonutti) and I would love to say it is a piece of junk, but a lot of the problem was operator malfunction. The 4 basket is simple a double 2 basket. Nothing is beefed up even though there is a lot of different stress loads. I have since learned from a tech rep that the ground speed shoul be slower than my disc mower. After following their recommendation and cutting ground speed in half I learned I could run the tededer higher which reduces ground impacts (stops the bouncing).

Thanx Tim, what makes one tedder better than another and what should I be looking for? What is a good brand to buy. I do less than 1000 square bales a year but could really use the faster drying time.(timothy/grass mix)

We have used a Morra and a Galfre (sold under Ringo Hill name in this area) and stay away from either. Both are lightly built and tend to lose bearings. I haven't looked at any AGCO tedders yet (Hesston, New Idea) so I can't tell you about those as far as quality. When looking at any tedder, the bigger the bearings, the heavier the frame, the longer it will last, in my opinion.

EnoRossi make most of the current NI and Hesston tedders. Galfre has 3 different series and 2 of them are ok anf the other one is too light.

Your price would be similar to what I see here. I've seen them from $1250 to $2000, depending on the quality of the tedder.
