I have recently acquired a JD Model 40, which came with an M-20 (mid-mount) sickle bar mower. Both the tractor and mower are in excellent condition, as I have put them to the test in an overgrown field.

Although the mower did an exceptional job, I would really prefer a 3pt sickle mower, for ease of hook-up, particularly since the M-20 mower ties up the draw bar and PTO shaft on this application. I was wondering what brand/model you guys would recommend for a 3pt sickle mower. I would like to stay with the Deere brand, but I'm not stuck on it. Also, is there any market for the M-20 mower that will fit the 40, but is really made for a John Deere M.

I use a JD #9 three point mount sickle mower. I like it, but I've had zero experience with anything else. I use it on a Ford 850 tractor. I could email some pics if that helps.

I would say there is a market for that mid-mount for restoration. If you were to put a 3-pt mower on, and it had to be JD, I'd say the 350 mower with balanced head. OR a New Holland 451. An MF 41 is also a good mower. New Idea made a good balanced-head mower, but I don't remember the NI number offhand. It's the same mower as the IH 1300.
