Boy, I don't think you'd be happy with that. Came with 14 hp or more, I suppose 11-12 would work, but 8 is aweful light?????

We run a 11 hp techcum on our S69. We had replaced some rollers on the plunger and sharpened the knives. I dont think we have any excess hp for thick grass or if your balers out of shape. But it would continuosly bale at a steady slow pace taking in some large grass wads.

JD manual shows Wisconsin Model THD @ 17 h.p. on a 14T. A farmer I worked for 40+ years ago ran Case balers and I think they were Wisconsins too.

Run what you have. Mine is proof of the minumun usable hp. If I was after another engine I would look for a 14hp+ but 12hp is sort of the magic number between an inexpensive and where they start getting pricey not counting brand names.

New Holland used a 15hp,2cyl Wisconsin engine on the Super 66 and the Hayliner 68. One of the old JD's we had when I was a kid, had a old flat head 4-cyl Wisconsin on it. Don't know what size it was. But, I know once in a while it would get to working pretty hard. So, I doubt a 8 hp would work. But, what the hay.
