I don't have instruction manual and need a new pitman arm. I bought it used with only part of the arm and a the connector to the bar. Plan to cut one from wood after reading forum about substitutes for wood. Questions: How long should a pitman be for 7' bar mower, kind of wood make a difference and how do I time the bar with the mower's eccentic. A friend said he thought the the blades should be centered between guides when the eccentric was at 9 oclock facing rear of the mower. Thanks in advance for your experiences.

The length of the cutterbar does not make the difference in the pitman wood, Ford made 2 different width frames depending if your wheels were set narrow or wide and thus the need for 2 length pitman woods.

Frank,

I make my own pittman rods as well but I did break down and buy one from the dealer for a pattern. Then I can make 10 of them fairly easy as I set up the drill press and saw for each step. I use white oak as it resists rot better than red oak and ash. Hickory works great as well. Remember to sight the grain and to make sure that you have a straight grain pattern from end to end. Ever since I really set up and made 10 of them I seem to not break as many... LOL

you can buy one at dealer for about $11.00 not worth fooling with at that price.

NH also sells reprints of the operator's manual for about $10...well worth twice the price.

Tom, what is NH where I can buy a manual, ourlocal dealer doesn't have manual or parts for sickle mowers anymore. Thanks for the comeback. Frank

NH is New-Holland which was Ford, make your dealer look it up or go to the next closest one, genuine parts are still available, manuals are sold at New-Hollands web site or it lists a 1-800 number to call.

The pubs department is at 800-635-4913. They're prompt and reasonable. You might see if you can get *both* an operator's and a parts manual so you can have something to start with when you get parts from the dealer.

As far as parts, don't let the parts guy say he can't get them...there's very few parts New Holland doesn't have, although some are expensive. Mine guy has even helped me "jury rig" some stuff when the real part was unreasonable.

Tom & Scott -Thanks for all the help re the mower. One way or another I am on the right track now. Examined the manuals avalable as photocopies from The N-Newsletter. They show both parts list and an asembly/operating instructions for Ford rear attach mower 56" and 76" models 14-92 & 14-93.Cost $12.95 for both.
