I run a Green Isle grinder/mixer (not sure of the model) with an H. Not lacking for horsepower.

I got a IH 1150 mill(A 115 bu I believe) and run it with a Super M-TA(With a 281 cube engine)..... .I have had everything from a JD 620 to a Super M to a IH 706..... ..The M-TA outworked all of them on it! I can unload ear corn out of a crib and put all I can to the mill and the M-TA hardly drops in RPM's..... Most people don't believe it until they see it with their own eyes..... .....

The neighbors have a Gehl with all the Hydraulic doo-dad's on it and they take way more power to run than the older mills..... ..

Our first one was a NH (number escapes me, 355??); currently use a JD (again, can't remember the model #, 470??); both mixers 100 bu capacity. Grind shelled corn which is augered into mixer from grain buggy. Either of them would choke a 4020 diesel down if you didn't limit the amount of corn going in..... .

We always ran a 60 hp plus tractor on our Gehl 115 with a direct (belt) drive hammer mill. Small grains like milo would run right through, but grinding ear corn even with a big screen could really make anything labor.

Actually, I've always ground shelled corn without a screen; does a nice job of 'cracking' without making too much powder.....

Really? I would think that would smash the heck out of the box, most notably the auger at the bottom where most all of the big chunks would hit first - anyhow on my mill design. I realize the stuff is flug around in there anyhow, but at least the screen woud absorb some of the energy.

I think my Gehl MX55 is perhaps a little smaller, but runs ok with an IH 300. A little more power helps tho.

My unckle got a different brand, pto ran a hyd pump. That sucker took twice the power, and still bogged down.

So it will depend on the make somewhat.
