I have a 24t that misses lots of ties and finally the middle drive shaft broke and bent the ujoint yoke/slip clutch assy. Since the baler was a royal pain I am wondering if the kicker could be put on a non-kicker baler or if I should just look for whole new (to me) baler w/kicker.
Thanks

You can put the ejector on another baler. I added one to a 336 chute baler once. You need to remember to move the offset axle assembly over to the other baler to balance the thrower. Actually mounting the ejector onto the bale case isn't too hard, nor is mounting the hydraulic pump. The worst part is snaking the lines under the baler. Seems that they fit just right under the one they're coming off of, but they won't fit the same way under the baler they're going on!

The 24t that I owned had a mechanical thrower(pan style) #3 if I remember right , any 336 Ive been around was hyd pan-type thrower . I have seen a 24t retrofitted with the newer style hyc. thrower.14t was completely different style , not sure if a newer thrower would adapt.

The mechanical thrower was most likely a #2. The #30 hydraulic thrower was available on the 24T and 224T 2 years before the 336 and 346 replaced them. The #30 probably would fit the 14T, but you'd have to make a couple minor changes in mounting brackets for the pump and control rod support.

Thanks for the info Tim. If you put a thrower from a 24t on a 336 chute baler, is there a "family" of similar jd balers I can be looking for? If so which seem to be the best? My 24t did seem lacking in capacity in the pickup area when the 1st crop hay was thick. Biggest problem was the knotters missing and bales "exploding" or jamming the ejector. no idea how many bales went thru my 24t but judging by the connecting rod the slop in the gearcase and the fact that the intake feed forks and the needles have been welded makes me think it had a hard life before I got it. When it worked it sure is a wonderful thing though.

The 336 will give you more capacity than a 24T, but a 346 will give you even more, uses the same ejector (model 30). 336 and 346 are about the same price range. I never liked the ejector, too much maintenance involved in the design, but I never had much trouble with the 336 baler, except when the pitman arm on the plunger broke and spit the plunger out the back, but the old girl had many bales through her by that time.
