Top link for three point to dump

I have a three point carry attachment. It is a very handy thing with a removeable cargo box. It would seem to me that it would be even handier, if I could find a top link that, easily, gets longer, so the cargo box would dump backward, kind of like a dump truck bed. I was thinking a lever arrangement may work (sort of like a chain binder on a truck), so it could be immediately brought back up after it was emptied.
I've been using the cargo box to carry rock's I've picked up in the fields and pastures, and it would be so much easier if I could just dump the load, rather than shovel or pick them out by hand.

I got a double acting hydraulic cylinder with the same extension as my top link, welded a bolt onto the implement end that fits one of the threaded balls. On the other end I drilled a hole and bolted a ball end, after shortening the stroke as much as possible and cutting off the excess threads. Then I plumbed the two hydraulic inlets with tubing, and added a cock valve and T fitting. On the T I put a stand pipe. Filled the thing up with hydraulic fluid. When I want to extend the top link, I open the cock, and move forward until I have the angle about right. Then I close the cock. To shorten the link, I back up, with the cock open. There is a little play when picking up my back blade and disc, but I can allow for that. If I want it to float I just open the cock. This is a whole lot harder to describe than do, I'll see if I can get a picture to post. Don't hold your breath, I'd digitally challenged when it comes to photos. ;-)

I just made an adapter for my tractor. That way i can use any of the several cyclinders i have around, and any implement too. It was easy to make out of scrap i had around, and i bought the ball end from a tractor supply store. The adapter easily "pins" on to my tractor where the top link went, i then can hook up any of the cyclinders and hoses i have around. Robert

Hydraulic cylinders have more oil one one end than the other, so just having a valve and hose between the ends is asking for trouble unless the cylinder has the same size rod out of both ends.

thats why he has the short pipe coming off the tee, so that it has a little resivoir to make up for the difference

I have on ocassion just unhooked the top link to dump the caryall but you have an interesting Idea. I usually use the scoop for chores that require a lot of dumping.

how ever do you drop the top link with a load on? On my 8n the pins would be so wedged in place I'd have to hammer em.

just sit the load down until the top link is relaxed and take the pin out of one end of the top link. a little adjustment of the top link may be required. Should you be having to always drive out the pins then maby a little attention is required.

I have a Dearborn rear scoop that dumps. I can't say offhand how it works, but if you could get a look at one you might get some ideas.

If you have remote hydraulics you could use a cylinder for top link
