Baler engine update

Back on 6/21 I mentioned that I was going to power my 24T baler with an extra 2-cyl Wis engine, in addition to the original one. Well, I finally got it done and it works super. The second engine is mounted above the plunger just in front of the feeder forks. I can maintain a steady pace and keep the auger chamber full; no having to restart a stalled hot engine, no creeping and stopping. I don't have to climb up on the baler to start #2, just start the first one and tighten the belt on the second. To the guy that thought I was looking for a challenge; you were right. To the ones that thought I would wreck my baler; that's what shear pins are for and I never broke one.

Does it seem to go through an awful lot of fuel, or is it not too bad? How's the noise? Would you do it again, or was it to see if you could?

It does use more gas, but I can put more hay down at a time because I can bale it faster. I would definetly do it again, wish I'd done it years ago. The noise isn't much different. I have to watch the exhaust to tell if the top one is running. I may have to mount another gas tank higher. I have them both out of the same tank on the same gas line and I have to blow in the tank to get the top one started after the baler has sat overnight. I do this while it's being turned by the bottom one. They are both belted by double singlebacked V-belts to the same original flywheel, which has had the crown turned off so it is flat. I hay with 9Ns and, being retired, buying a bigger tractor and a PTO baler was not an option. Thanks for your reply.
