I have a 52 hp. Case 595. What is the largest disc mower that I should consider? I have been told 8 feet, because of the weight of a disc mower.

Thanks.

We have a 9' NI 5409 and use it on either an IH 1066 or 1086 that are running a strong 150 hp and to be honest I wouldn't want a much smaller tractor on it. We have alot of big hills and tractor weight is just as important as the hp. We generally mow 8+ mph and I have ran as fast as 19 mph which is where the extra power really comes in handy. I would think you would have enough power for an 8' mower as long as you don't get in too much of a hurry and you should be able to add front weights to that tractor if you need them for stability.

8' should be enough. Have used a Vicon 8' on an MF 165 (A4-203 engine)with no problems if the the hay was not too thick. If you mean your tractor is 52hp at the P.T.O. then it should be OK. Could you ask your dealer if you can have a mower to 'demo' ( try out) just to see if it would be suitable for you? I have found that the Lely is an easy mower to spin, I believe in U.S.A. they are marketed as Vermeer.

Hello Roy,
We sell both the Lely and Vermeer. There are a few differences but 95% the same mower.

I prefer the 7'-10" or the 8' size works well with most tedders too.

8' will be all you'll want in good hay. I've got a 65 hp and 2 85 hps and an 8' disc mower pulls mighty hard on the 65. Every time I buy a new one I get to wanting a 9' but my dealer keeps talking me out of it. He has a point, with the bar up a 8' bar is as tall as my tractor cab.

The 8' is the best size sold. Many of the 9' and beyond 3 point mowers have frame problems and or safety release problems. Take for incidence the Fort & Morra mowers on their 9' mower when safety is tripped it will 50% of the time cause PTO damage leaving the farmer dead in the field needing expensive repairs.
