I am having problems with the left knotter of my NH 67 baler. When I load the baler really slow just before tying, most of the time it ties everytime, but when I go at a normal speed, it breaks or doesn't complete the tie! It always has the one end knotted and the other one cut! Could it be cutting my twine to early before finishing the tie? I have used 9000 twine for years but this last bale of twine I bought, I went to 7200 and it works a little better but still not very good!Would 10,000 twine be better? It breaks every 10 bales or so when I baby it or every other one when I bale at normal speed! It doesn't look like its getting caught in the billhooks! Any suggestions? I have a WD 45 for baling with the hand clutch which I use either in 1st gear when baling really heavy hay or 2nd when really light hay!

Clyde, can you be specific as to which end of the twine has a loop and which end is not tied? It really makes a huge difference. Everything NHbalerman said is correct, but fixing open knots really depends on which end has the loop and which end doesn't. Steve

The Knots are always on the twine side toward the wagon with just about 4-6 inches of twine expose with the end cut next to the front of the bale! Hope I explained that ok. I'm getting real proficient a tying broken bales! It just the hassle of stopping and starting and loss of baling time! I have 29 acres of heavy hay to do next and want to try and eliminate some of the problems!

Clyde, I really do not believe your twine is cut. What I believe is happening is the front string is just simply not being tied. This problem is the hardest to situation diagnose. I will say this: I am fairly certain that the problem is NOT the knotter itself. I know that sounds dumb, but it is true. When the front string does not have a loop, the problem generally lies with things such as: 1. Stuck haydogs or broken haydog springs,2. Improper needle to twine finger adjustments, 3. Twine fingers not adjusted properly and/or twine finger rod is bent, or 4. Other problems not related to the knotter itself. Out of all these options, number 3 is the most likely cause. However, this one can be tricky to solve. Clyde, check these things and get back with me. Steve

You may want to check the needles. A rough or sharp edge on that hole the twine goes through will cut and fray the twine in the front of the bale

Sounds like you need to tighten the twine tension at the twine holder just a flat at a time until it starts tying, sounds like when you put more hay in it ,it will pull the twine from the twine disc and you have a knot in only twine #2,just don't over tighten it too much at a time,if this does not help you will need to replace your twine disc and the holder.
