I have read here that Long made some balers for Ford. Did Long ever make and sell the same baler under their own name? I was told today of a Long 680 baler and thought it might be the same as a Ford. Question is - which model Ford?

Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks!
Bill

We needed some parts for our 532 Ford, but the prices have skyrocketed since New Holland bought Ford. Our local New Holland dealer told me that New Idea made these balers for Ford and that I might check with a New Idea dealer to see if they were cheaper. I went to the local New Idea dealer and sure enough they looked up square balers and New Idea did have some that looked identical to Ford. Unfortunately for me, they were about the same price as New Holland. I ended up getting the parts from a salvage yard.

Anyway, I've read on here about Long making the balers. Either that's incorrect or maybe Long made the New Ideas too. Does anyone know for sure?

Early Ford balers were Longs. Late ones were Gehls. Don't know if any were ever New Ideas. Late IH balers were New Ideas.
