Need your advice. I have an opportunity to buy a New Holland Hayliner 67 baler for $250.
Is this a decent baler?
Will I have any trouble operating it with my Farmall C - 20hp.
Thanks, Bill

It is a fine baler , they go for 100 for a junk one to 400 for a running one here in Southern IL. I have run it with a ford 8N before just to see if it could and it did fine (besides really missing a live PTO) 8N has around 25 horses give or take i think

I have 2 New Holland Hayliner 67's. I got both at auctions one I got for $120 and the other I got for $10 and they both work. The one that I got for 10 was stored outside and all the roller chains had to be replaced. But they are great balers and on my small acres it is right and I have learned a lot about them. If you get any baler GET THE MANUAL ALSO. Good Luck Jeff

An ok baler for an old one, & for that price. If it's sat outside for years, forget it, but if in good shape, should be an ok one.

A C is real borderline for running a baler. You will have to drop the bales on the ground, make small windrows, and without live pto you will become good at quick-shifting to handle heavy spots. You will be unplugging the baler a lot as you learn that. I guess it would work, but is not ideal, low on power, no live pto..... Small acreage only, of course?

You can run the pto baler with a C. I dont have a 67 but from all I have heard its a great baler.
Always figure on spending at least $300 extra in parts when you buy a old baler. That way if you spend under that its gravy.
From what I have heard and seen. The main things to look at on any old balers are the feeder. make sure they never hit any thing with it. Stumps and such. Here is a photo of a feeder that had hit some thing. Not a big deal if you have a spare one like me.
Also check the bale chamber to see if its rusted out. If its rusted out its shot.
Other than that you can replace any worn out part and have a good baler.

Good question. But I don't know. I have heard a lot of good things reguarding the 67 & 68's. Also some bad. But what condition is it in? 20hp is plenty if it is a motor driven baler. PTO probably not, unless the tractor is in like new condition, so is the baler, you'll be operating on flat ground and, not dealing with heavy windrows. I think the motor driven baler used something like a 14-16hp 2cly engine. In general the 67 is/was a good baler considering age, wear, etc. Heres something I posted when I started out.
