Old Disk, Again

Digging further into the rear gang of the old disk I'm finding that I'm going to need a bearing spool and a spacer spool. Not having a clue as to the make of the disk (other than Dad bought it with an old Farmall in the 50's) does anyone know a well stocked implement junk yard reasonably close to Kansas City? Honestly, it is beyond PRACTICAL repair, but I want to. Not that I don't have other projects that need done worse!!!

Thanks.
Bill

You may try Austin Farm Salvage in Butler MO. They have a lot of stuff, may have what you need.

It looks a lot like one I have which is an old IH I believe. Usually they have the IH logo on the bearing caps though. Would think you could fine one or 2 parts discs like this in most any salvage yard or even sitting in a weed patch. The one I have has been patched and welded so much it has extra balast from the welds. Mine has a diffeent setup for adjusting the gangs, you lift a lever on the front and pull foreward to set it.

I bought an old 3 pt. disc here a year and a half ago. Not only were the spools shot but the bearing halves were worn sideways so badly that there wasn't much saving them.
I ended up buying some new cast iron bearing sets and modified the disc so that it would accept the new housing.
Agri supply has some CI bearings that look similar to the ones I bought but they're a bit more money. Mine were complete sets - upper/lower shells and spools delivered to my door for around $17 each.
I wouldn't want to try rebuilding old discs for a living. You'd go broke in a hurry. But if you're handy with a torch and welder and are just doing it for fun I did end up with a real nice 4 gang 7' unit for under $200
Your's is a nice old rig. I'd sure try to fix it.

Don't worry about the repair being impractical. I can't begin to tell you how many pieces of broken or rusted equipment I have rescued from fencerows and old tumble-down barns. I could have found equipment ready to go for use on the farm, but I get an intense enjoyment out of bringing the old iron back into "money-earning" condition. I have an old A-C PTO tedder rake currently waiting for my attention, as well as a beat-up Farmall H. There's also the old New Idea 311 picker which will be back in good order for this fall's corn crop.
