I'm looking for a Baler(4'x4' or 4'x4 1/2') that my D15 will handle. Heston,Krone,New Idea to name a few make Balers that are rated for a 35-40 HP tractor. What do I look for, which ones are good or bad. Please advise any information you can give me.

A round baler I assume? I run a Vermeer 504C balere with my Oliver 77 and it seems to work well. It is a fairly old baler and has the manuel tie (very easy to work), so it only need one (set, up&down) hyd outlet. The 504 makes a 4 foot wide bale up to 5 foot tall, you can make a smaller bale by not filling the chamber as full. I am very happy with it and would recommend Vermeer to anyone. They have been in business for a long time and the parts are still availible.

Kurt, Yes I'm looking for a Round Baler (sorry about that). Is the 504 the smallest that Vermeer makes?
Would my D15 handle a John Deere 410? Thanks,
Mark

I don't know about the long green line, I try to avoid that stuff. It seems to clash with all of the other colors I have. Plus, I've never really had very good luck with that brand, some people love them, but not me. The 504 is vermeer's smallest baler, the letter behind them indicates how old they are. I believe they are up to "K" now. You should have no problem running one of these. I think most of the name brand balers are pretty decent, Heston, Gehl, New Holland. I don't know how much you bale but twine is cheaper than net wrap, if you use twine, plastic twine is best (sisal rots). If you only have one set of outlets get a manual or electric tie. Manual is simple and there is no elec. motor to go bad. I have heard that the kind of baler with the steel rolls on the out-side (soft-core) are a pain and something to stay away from, but I don't have any experience with them and can't say for sure. One more important note, if you haul hay down the road, 4 foot bales side by side fit on an 8 foot wide trailer very nicly and LEGALY.
