I have a new to me NH square baler, not too old about a 1998 or so . the pick up belt broke , the belt sheave is behind two gears . How does one install new belt , what has to come off. The manual mentions removing the belt for storage but makes no mention of how. Any help appreciated.

Mechoman, this is NOT one of New Holland's better ideas. First off, make sure you replace it with belt part number 709998.(or something real close to that) That may not be the original number, but this belt is a hair shorter allowing it to slip a little bit more and tear less. This was covered in a New Holland service bulletin. Basicly, what Rick told you is correct over on the other forum, but I must caution you on one thing. Please make a mark on the knotter shaft just before you unclamp the knotter drive clutch so you MAKE SURE you get it back on the shaft at least as far as you had it before removal. I dislike New Holland's engineering that makes you take off critical knotter endplay parts just to replace a belt. I will also remind you to scibe or mark the big gears before you seperate them. Good luck, Steve

THANKS GUYS FOR THE HELP, AS I HAD HAY ON THE GROUND I FIXED IT WITH A SEGMENTED BELT WHICH I COULD PUT TOGETHER AFTER GOING AROUND SHEAVES, IT WORKED FOR NOW. I WAS CERTAIN IT WAS GOING TO BE MORE DIFFICULT THAN IT SHOULD BE. COULD BE SO MUCH SIMPLER IF FRONT GEAR AND SHEAVE WOULD SLIDE BACK.
