I removed the flywheel and replaced the front seal on the gearbox on this baler. The bushing in the flywheel was toast so I replaced it also. When I got it apart there were 3 washer/shims between the flywheel and the gearbox. One was worn paper thin. According to NH dealer only 1 shim is shown in parts diagram, but he said to take up the slack here if there is any. If I use one new shim, the flywheel looks like it will rub the frame. But if I use 2 new ones, it holds the flywheel so tight that I can't turn it by hand. If I shear a bolt, I'll have to hold the pto shaft with a bar to turn the flywheel to replace the bolt. Anybody know how many shims are suppose to be here? Any ideas?

mfman, there is no set amount. It does not matter if there is not enough shims, but you do NOT want too many making the flywheel tight. I know the flywheel may rub the frame when you shear a bolt, but it really doesn't hurt anything. So, if you have to choose, take a shim out. Steve

Thanks Steve. I'll think I'll just go with 1 new one then.
