Well I think that I have the baler timed, all things seem to be ok when turning the baler fly wheel by hand. In order for the plunger stop to function properly and have the needles come into the bale shout about .75 inchespast the front of the bale plunger, I had to chang the knotter timing. The outter mark on the knotter clutch is 1.5 inches higher than the inner mark. If this seems ok, I will try the tractor on it tomorow. By the way the brass rollers (about 7/8 inch diamiter) for the knotters is $15.00 each hear in Alberta and the roller for the duck bills are $32.00. The new roller for the duck bill is steel and is complete with the duck bill.

If you know how to time a baler using the neddles to plunger method, do not worry about where the marks line up. You should be good to go. Steve

Your new billhooks should have brass rollers unless your knotter frames have been replaced using frames with replaceable inserts where the billhook roller runs. If in doubt, use brass rollers. Billhooks with brass rollers will look steel colored but won't attract a small magnet. There are 4 choices for billhooks for your knotter; sisal billhooks with brass or steel rollers and plastic twine billhooks with either steel or brass rollers.

Are you checking timing marks on knotter drive with needles in clear home position? May make a difference in way marks line up. Also when you check the timing by running it through by hand be sure you are turning the flywheel in the normal direction of travel. You might want to check feeder fork also to be sure it is timed correctly.

I sure hope you've got your setting correct. I don't know a thing about the baler you're talking about, but....I've just had a sobering afternoon with my old machinery...I'm cutting silage, got off work at 3....home and to the corn field...broke down on round 2 (drive line problem on cutter) ran to town for parts....got it going....but a BIG load of feed and now my Chuck Wagon won't move the chain to unload it...I think I know whats wrong but I don't know if I can fix it with a load on, may have to fork the load off by hand in the morning. I guess you've just got to stop and think about why we're messing with this old stuff, its sure fun when it all works, fun to fixing it up! I have to keep reminding myself, I'm just hobby farming and doing this for fun!!!! Sometimes hard to do when you're sweating and greasy!! Maybe its a character building thing, or just mechanical education, who knows, its fun and I'm bound and determined to make this old iron work like NEW....I hope yours does to.
