I just purchased what the seller claimed was a 1950 ford 8N tractor. After paying him I went to get the serial number from the engine. It turned out the number was 9N228206 which led me to think it was a 9N. I am new to Fords and didn't know the difference and neither did the seller. I checcked this forum serial numbers and it appears, if I read it right, that it is a 1946 model 2N. I paid $1000. The engine is quiet and runs good but smokes more than I would like. The pto, 3 point and hydraulics work good and quiet. There is some rust thru on the hood and missing original grill. Tires are like new. Of course it needs a lot of tlc to make it more presentable. I live on long island, NY but have 70 acres of land and mobile home in Herkimer upstate NY. What do you folks think of the price? Is it OK or did I mess up? I have owned a Farmall CUB for a couple of years and found it to be too weak for cutting heavy weeds and brush. If this machine works out better I may be selling the Cub and several implements. By the way this is just the beguinning. I will be asking a lot of questions once I get it home and start tinkering with it.

Hey Bigwheel I'm on Long Island also. I have a place in Acra, NY near Windham Ski area. I have a 2N and an 8N upstate. The price you paid sounds good to me. I paid $2200 for the 2N and $1600 for the 8. The 8N needed a clutch. The 2N was in pretty good shape, but also smokes a bit. I think the 8N will be a better tractor once fixed up. I've put in the clutch, rebuilt the hydrolic pump, and lift piston. Now I'm changing the intake manifold gasket. The best place for your 2N questions is the N board. Go to your left to discusion forums and scroll down to Ford 9N, 2N & 8N. Your going to have a ton of questions That's the place to ask. I learn a lot from the guys there, a great group.
