NH baler - help w/ model #

Saw a NH baler for sale - seller is basically a junk dealer who doesn't know anything about it. How do I tell which model it is? Only decal left on it is the large "New Holland" one. It's a small square baler, PTO driven. Someone left bales of hay in it which have sprouted weeds growing up out of the chute. Pretty rusty, but I think I can get it for a couple of hundred dollars. Figured at the very least, might be a good education in restoring a baler. At best, it might be workable. Anyway, where do I look for serial #, model #, etc.? Thanks for helping. Glenn

I agree it sounds like to much. The serial # on my N.H. 68 besides the tag by the flywheel it is also stamped on the left side of where you open up the hinged cover to get to the plunger crank. I would look around some more.

Hey John!!
Check out this 68 on ebay.
Sure wish I was by there. I would take some tracing papper over and trace those decales so I can have some made.

Hey, I like to do that to. I would bid on it if I thought I could get it home. I had it mapped and it is 207 miles. Do you have somebody in mind to do the decals?

There are a couple of companys in the twin cities that do that kind of work. I have thier contact info around here some where.
By the by, I drug my 268 a 190 mi to get it home :-)
Need a lap top and a copy of streets and trips though, so you can follow all the county roads.
Take plenty of spare tires.

That had to take a while. You want the bearings to be in good shape and packed. I am going to try to find one locally to get the decal info. If I find one I will send a traced copy. I know of one south of me about 50 miles setting in a barn driveway that had the decals intact. I going to get the word out. Thanks

Yes it was. I had put a $50 bid on it on ebay figuring some one would surely out bid me.
Well as you can see I won the bid.

Jim, Mike has it right. Most all NH model/serial tags are very close to the flywheel up front. I also agree with the others. If a junk dealer is selling it, a couple of hundred dollars seems a little high. Steve

Most of the NH balers I've seen have a tag riveted to the sheetmetal with the model number and serial number. Usually it's somewhere along the lower portion of the sheetmetal so you have to bend over to even read it. It's about the size of an index card or maybe smaller. Could have been painted over or it could be missing. If you find a spot with 4 empty rivet holes you'll know it's gone.
