Hydraulic top link on 2440

besides farming, we do quite a bit of golf course construction with our tractors. We spend a great deal of time with a grader box behind our 2440. I spend WAY too much time adjusting the top link, on the 3 point hitch. Has anyone ever put a hydraulic cylinder in to replace the top link? (In order to use the "ripper" teeth, you must shorten the top link, and to grade, or spread dirt, it must be returned to it's original lenght)

Greenline Mfg. makes a very durable hydraulic top link (cat.ll). I have a pair of them and used them for several years. I gave $90.00 for the first back in 1986, and the second one for $125.00 in 1998, very reasonably priced at that time, I wouldn't have a tractor without one.

I got a two 2 way 10" hydraulic cylinder with a rod (not clevis)on one end and a cross tube on the other end (you might need a longer or shorter one, depending on your hitch). I cut off half of the cross tube and welded a center link ball joint on (got it at TSC or some other farm store - can't remember). The rod end goes to the implement and the ball joint at the tractor end.

It works good. Even with a simple back blade you can tilt the blade to dig (if you have enough power) or to drag & spread.

I have it on a Kubota L-2950 but I also had one on my Farmall 340 that I sold when I left Minnesota.

I haven't used a manual link for years.

In addition to the many other sources mentioned, the back pages of Successful Farming & other ag magazines have the connector sources if you wish to make your own. There are more cat 1 becoming avalible as the compact tractor sales expand. I've seen prices from $150-300 also.

Top of my head,baileynet.com,$140-175;princedirect.com,$165. Rankineqco.com for cat 1.Did search on msn,over 50000 hits (hydraulic top link).first 3 pages were plenty.Also any good hyd repair/sales should be able to help.

Worksaver makes one that works very well. I'm not sure but I think they cost around $250 to $300. I think they only come for Catagory 2. I can get you one if you want to email me.

Charles, I'm sure this will work. I've seen several industrial tractors equiped this way. As I see it, it's just a matter of finding the right size cylinder, and making the ends fit the top link mounting points. It sure would be good to hear from someone that has done it, though. Nothing in the world like actual experience.

I need the part/adaptor the goes from cylinder to the back of tractor. I am sure some makes them.

TSC IN SHELBYVILLE,KY HAS THESE HYDRAULIC TOP LINKS ON THE SHELF. THEY ARE BLACK AND WITH THE CYLINDERS. I HAVE ONE AND IT IS THE BEST. WHERE IN KY ARE YOU LOCATED?

we got our first one in the mid 70's.we've had excellent luck with gannon brand.i went with tisco on my last tractor.it's a good unit,but it aint no gannon.good luck
