This is a splined set up...base with the two blades attached on a 10 ft rotary cutter. It is stuck, froze...never been off and its old. If I call the portable welder will he be able to get it off with heat? The base, if I am making sense here?...is about 3 inches in height...that is the hub. pretty inaccessible...some anti-seize sure would have been a nice thought...but it either wasn't applied or even that has frozen...any experience appreciated.

keep in mine that their is an oil seal at the bottom of the gear box... usually the stump jumper sheet metal makes it difficult to get the torch heat exactly where its needed...put the nut back on the shaft so ya can hit the shaft with the biggest sledge hammer ya got.. i used every thing available to get mine off(juice, heat, hammer)had the hog on its side, that seamed to work best, the used one i purchased to get a good gearbox i had to cut the blade holder off of the spline shaft, it just would not come off..

In the past I have used a hydraulic bottle jack (20 ton). I made a frame to bolt on where the blades are with a strap across the top of jack. On the shaft I use a heavy thick wall piece of pipe that would set over bolt but between splines to set base of jack on. Use caution because you can bend blade carrier if you get to carried away.
