On August 1&2 of this week, the town of Coldwater, Ohio will be having their town "picnic" or festival. One thing that is included this year will be a display of equipment made by New Idea, formerly headquartered in Coldwater. About a year ago, many individuals, including area farmers, antique equipment buffs, and retired NI employees, got together to form the "New Idea Preservation Committee." Right now, small steps are what we are taking. Our goal is to eventually build a NI and/or western Ohio ag museum. We are just getting our feet wet starting with this display this weekend.
We are planning to have a cross-section of NI equipment, mainly from close vicinity of Coldwater, as there is still a lot of old equipment tucked around still there. I will be taking a 1955 W-6 wire-tie baler and some other stuff. I hope to take some pictures this weekend, hopefully to post when I get a scanner. I will keep you all posted as we progress. I would like to create a website if I can get it all worked out.
I thought I would post this here, as I know there is some interest in New Idea equipment on this board.
Thank you,
Jim Weiler

I know Jim and he is a great young guy, just a couple of years into teaching ag, and that baler is a very good model of something most people don't realize ever existed, a straight through baler from the 50's, good luck Jim

i worked for a New Idea dealer starting when I was in high school so I am very interested. We sold about 25 manure spreaders a year along with the cutditioner, and a few other pieces.

Sounds wonderful

To save yourself some trouble (and provide us drooling addicts of machines pictures sooner) you might want to consider getting a photo CD when you have the pics developed. Typically not more than a couple of bucks and is worth it in time saved scanning.
