I have a JD 24 T that the plunger chamber is getting hot to the touch by the slides. I have tried to adjust the pads because it is very sloppy against the slides. Even after adjusting the pads it is still sloppy when the plunger makes a round. You only notice how sloppy it is when you run it around by hand after breaking a shear pin. It don't seem to slam or rattle when it is running. How much play, if any, should there be between the pads and the slides? Thanks

There are rollers on the plunger that are probably siezed up and gone.

Had a 336 that did that. IF the rollers are gone, chances are the roller track is worn out, too.

I don't know. But...I'm guessing...you're hanging in the bale case, rubbing the side (s) hard, generating heat. I had a 214JD...couldn't keep shear pins in it...finally pulled the plunger out and took my welder and welder up the pads to near original dimensions...and it was like a new baler!!!! I simply used 7018 and built up and then smoothed up a bit with my grinder and put back in and adjusted per the JD manual..and then adjusted a time or two after that. worked GREAT.
