Raking Hay with an ATV

Has anyone ever attempted to rake hay with a side delivery rake using their ATV. How did it work? Why did you use the ATV? I'm thinking this might help me get my hay put up quicker tonite. Thanks for your comments

I have heard that it can be hard on the ATV's transmission.

we have raked severeal hundred acres with our atv i used to have a 400 polarios now we have a 650 kawasaki 4x4 and a 660 jd dolly wheel rake, my boys would rather rake with the 4 wheeler than a tractor

there use to be a fellow around here that made hay for alot of people. His mower was an N with a mid mount mower and he raked and baled with the original ATV (military jeep)

I used my Honda Foreman this year to pull a 56 NH. Worked well. I have 2 rakes with an offset hitch but that would have made too big a windrow. I needed to rake a lot in a short time (and only had 2 tractors on the job) so I put 1 rake on 1 tractor, 1 on the ATV, and the baler on the other tractor.

My dad (he's 79) and I try to keep at least one man hired between us. I try to not ask dad to help me too much anymore, he has 200 acres of his own and that is plenty for him. Usually only ask him to help if I'm really getting pressed by the weather or if I'm square baling. Put him on the baler, me on the ATV, and the hired man on the other rake. Funny thing about guys like him, I get to thinking it is too much for him and then he'll show up on some job to relieve me. Two weeks ago he and I were each on a custom job (about 80 rolls on his and 140 on mine). He got finished and went home to eat supper, then came and offered to relieved me. He said for me to go home and play with my kid.

Oh my god yes..... .....We pulled our 404 wheel rake with a Honda Foremen..... Pulled an older NI roll bar rake with it too. The ATV rides better and saves a tractor for something else.

This is alittle off your question, but in the fall we rake corn and bean stubble with our farm(beater) truck!!!!! ! Its a '69 C-10 with the 250 I-6..... ..We plumbed the exhaust to a stack so we don't have a fire harzard and pull the wheel rake like crazy with it!!!!! And it does have a nice heater ;-P

I once saw a neighbor raking hay with his pickup truck. It was a pretty hot day and he was riding around with the A/C on. Pretty neat.

I have a nieghbor that always uses the pick-up to rake hay. Why not? looks more comfortable. The same guy tried to disk a field with his truck, a few years ago. He bought a new truck shortly after that.

That old chevy with its independent front suspension and the coil springs on the rear ride really nice in a corn field ;-P I remember one cold night in November we were baling Soybean stubble. I was baling with the M-TA and NH 269 and my brother and the neighbor kid were in the truck raking..... ....They had better headlights, radio, and a HEATER! While I was freezing my butt off on the tractor!

Dad burnt a really good 79 GMC 3/4 ton 4x4 once raking hay, got it wrapped around the shaft and built up. No way we could rake with a 4 wheeler here, have trouble sometimes on the hills with 65 hp and a NH 258
