I bought the Lely disc mower that I had posted about. I mowed about 4 acres and broke the drive shaft. I welded it and turned it end for end and it broke after about three acres. Now the question. The guy I bought it from said he got all his parts at Case IH dealers, I have called four dealers that now think I am crazy. I called Lely USA in North Carolina, the woman gave me the names of three dealers, when I called them, they had no clue and now three more dealers think I am crazy. Where do I go now? I am going to call Vermeer, so what if someone else thinks I am nuts.

Sorry to hear about the mower, It makes you feel a little awkward when you recommend something to someone, and then they buy one and the first thing it does is break! It sounds as though Lely U.S.A. need 'A rocket behind them' as we say over here.
I do not think Case IH had anything to do with Lely. The only thing that springs to mind is that the previous owners dealer sold Case IH and also Lely stuff. The only problem I had with mine was a 'warranty repair'. The running skids had been fitted incorrectly, ( whether by the dealer or at the factory I never did find out ) One broke in the field and smashed one of the individual cutting units. Lely accepted full responsibility , within 24 hours some guys from the dealers came out and replaced the broken disc unit. When they took the cutterbar to pieces I was a bit shocked when I saw the diameter ( or should I say lack of diameter! ) of the drive shaft, although in all fairness it never gave me any trouble. I ran the machine for about 10 years and cut hundreds of acres of hay and silage, but the only thing I ever needed to replace were the blades.

Roy,
Your Lely likely has a 12mm square shaft and the new Lely Splendimo has a 14mm hex shaft.
