The eccentric mounting Steve is talking about is best worked on by crawling under the back of the machine and loking up to the right behind the rolls

MM, the #40 reel drive chain actually does have a tightener. I'll be happy to explain it to you, but it is kinda tough to descibe. The shaft that the big sprocket is on is an ecentric shaft. If you look inside the frame directly in at the inner end of the big sprocket shaft, you will see a plate bolted to the shaft with 2, 5/16" bolts. That plate extends out from the shaft about 2 to 3 inches. It has a slotted hole and is fastened to the haybine frame with 1, 3/8" bolt. If you loosen that 3/8" bolt, you can rotate the plate, which in turn is rotating the ecentric shaft that the big sprocket is on. I am having trouble explaining in print what I am trying to say. However, it is much easier to buy a new #40 chain and put it on. That will clear up your troubles. Hope this helps, Steve

If when you say carriage you mean reel, then no there is no adjustment. You'll either have to remove a link, possibly add a half link or replace the chain.
