Baled a few bales with my new-to-me NH 270 to try it out. Left bill hook occasionally holds on to the knot; it doesn't slip off, which makes it miss every bale after this happens. It had sisal twine in it when I got it. What twine should I be using, 9000? What's the likely problem with the knot hanging on the bill hook? Thanks!

Just shows different balers like different stuff. I use a 336 Deere my dad bought new the first year they came out. He had fits with it for a couple of years, rep from Deere came out and told him to change to a smaller twine than the 9000 he was using. He went to a 10,000. Worked great. I switched to plastic 5 years ago for my NH bale wagon. Never changed a thing and it works great, might a half dosen when I start for the season and usually missed 1 when it changes balls of twine.

My 270 has run 9000 sisal all it's life. Works fine.

Different twine may need slightly different settings, and if you were using thinner twine, thicker stuff might hang up on grooves that formed. In general plastic twine will take better settings than sisal, thicker twine will be more forgiving. Some balls of twine are just plain bad, try a different brand before throwing in the towel.

Around here you see very little plastic twine on small squares, people hate the stuff because it never goes away....

Twine can be the problem. Was bailing the other day with an Oliver 60T, which had a record of not doing real good with tying. I was experiencing probably 90% failures to knot. Meant stopping and hand tying almost every bale. Then we got into two new balls of twine. With nothing changed it went to about 95% good knots. This was the same brand of twine, bought at the same time, side by side on the pallet! I can only assume it was made on a different machine, with a different operator. What a difference!

At one time there were different bill hooks for different types of twine. In my part of the country you wouldn't find a ball of sisel twine, all plastic of various collors and strengths. It may also take some adjust ment from one weight twine to another as far as tension and all.

well im not sure exactly what is the recomended twine, but i will say this, my NH 268 baler usualy would miss a tie or break a bale like every 20-30 bales, not a huge deal since i dont do more than maybe 800 bales a cutting, but inconvenient none the less. well last sunday i ran out of twine, i usualy used 9000, i borrowed some from a friend who all he had was 7200 which he swears is the best, that baler worked great, very few broken bales, the 7200 is alot heavier and seems to work alot better, maybe just luck, but i think i will get 7200 from now on

I will have to agree, I was running 9000 twine in my NH 320 baler and kept finding thin spots and the twine was not holding the bales and the kicker would break them. I switched to 7200 twine and have not had near the problems, the baler misses very few anymore and havent had the kicker bust a bale in a long time. I will not go back and in fact I ran the last of the 9000 twine through the round baler to get rid of it.
