Have a old pull-type rotary mower (brush hog) built by New Idea, but I have a problem... the Main Shaft broke (spindle shaft). I'd really like to get it fixed. Can anyone help with a shaft (or complete gear box)? Any help is appreciated

Brad

phew, same here. snaped my main shaft last month, new gearboxes run around 250 to 350 bucks... i found a matching gear box on a hog at the local recycle (junk) yard,, had to buy the whole hog just to get the gear box (150 bucks), i went this route cause i love my old hog, had to use the blue tip wrench alot also, i'm back mowing & abusing my rig, lots of parts avail. at tractor supply

Go to AGCO.com and find a dealer near you, they are New Idea (beware of high prices), or Barco.com They sell complete gearboxes. Lots of cutters have Borg-Warner gearboxes too, with a wire brush you might find names and numbers they are stamped on the box somewhere. You probally might find another cutter in good shape for the money you will spend. Good Luck!!

I got a parts book for what I believe is my rotary mower (on accident, kinda, from a fellow site goer), and I called my local New Idea dealer, and they can't find anything for my parts. I believe it to be a #450, but none the less, obsolete. I don't want to invest much in it, as it's in fairly rough shape, but works like a champ.

Thanks for all help so far,

Brad Gyde
