Has anyone seen anyone using one of those round bale wrappers? I travel from SouthWest Houston to North La and up toward Dallas a lot and have seen alot of guys haying but no baleage. Is this a Northern thing? Does the HOT climate and humidity have something to do with it? Just curious since I know nothing about baleage except what I've read in articles and seen in equipment brochures. Thanks.

Mike,I custom bale in N.Central Tx. and have seen in my area baleage but not alot.It is more labor intensive than just round baling. One dairyman baled several 1000 rolls of baleage a few yrs ago,up came a hail storm and put holes in the bags letting air in to spoil the feed value.Maybe this is why it is not done as much here. When done right it is good feed.It also takes a baler equipped to handle high moisture hay, another expense.Jim B

I have no idea why they aren't using them there. Really starting to hit big in my area of Kentucky. We certainly have our share of humidity. Just for speculation, they may have more predictable and less frequent rain in that part of Texas so could make dry hay???

There are 8 of us that hang out a lot. Three years ago we probably put up less than 200 rolls of baleage in single bale wraps among all of us. Now we all use inline wrappers and have wrapped a bunch this year. Used a whole truck load of untreated twine and a whole load of plastic. One guy, over 2000 rolls couple of others over 1000 rolls each. I've got 100 rolls wrapped and am the smallest one.
