changing 540 rpm rotary cutter to 1000 rpm

I need to install new blades on my "CRP clipper special" aka bush-hog aka rotary cutter. doing a farily ragged job but keeping the sprouts back. Was just wondering what if I change the 540 to 1000...? would just need a new end piece?...would that also enable a nicer smoother cut along with the new blades?

Huckleberry,changing 540/1000 is more complicated than just changing end piece.You would have to change gears in gearbox.1000rpm's is not suppossed to increase blade tip speed but increase pto input shaft speed to reduce torque on input shafts and ujoints for use on higher horsepower tractors.If you just changed endpiece and ran it at 1000rpm's you better build a large scatter shield and get ready to buy a new rotary mower.Also have your LIFE and/or HEALTH Insurance paid up to date.Liability Ins.too.Jim B

Thanks a lot for the info!! I know when you don't know its a good idea to ask somebody who does. I think part of the reason so many farmers get hurt is because there ain't don't school for farmers...an Ag degree...well my daughter has one and she's an attorney...doesn't even check her own oil. Not that I would have taken that action without seeing a dealer mechanic...but this website has probably saved a lot of lives. Thanks again!
